October 16, 2025. Mourning Ace Frehley.

It is with great sadness that The Harlots of 42nd Street report on the passing of a fabulously talented musician and a contemporary of our band, Ace Frehley of KISS. In the early years of the 1970s, our bands often played at the same venues, they (with Ace) one week, and The Harlots the week before, or after. We were extremely happy for their success and continued growth. They, and Ace, represented our community of musicians, and made us all proud.

April 4, 2024:

It is with great sadness that we report on the passing of our bass player for The Harlots, Frankie Harlot aka Frank Mueller. He had been battling kidney disease for many years. He was a one-of-a-kind type of guy with his talent and his unique personality. He held down the melodic thump of the songs of The Harlots, with his stage presence, menacing, loving, and cynical glances, all at the same time. Frankie was an important cog in the wheel of this band's creativity. Frankie was preceded by Tony (drums) to the next, and eternal, world. Frankie, we will always miss you and your awesome perspective. Signed, Your Friends and Bandmates: Gene, Doug, Christy; and Producer and Manager, Seth, whose great honor was to write you your first royalty check in 50 years, and another this week, that now goes to your lovely daughter, Sandy.

Said David Johansen: "We used to compete with the Harlots of 42nd Street which was a group of guys who looked like truck drivers but dressed like the Dolls and wore, like, fishnet stockings over these big muscular hairy legs. They were my favorite band."

Here's a nice write-up: © 1996-2022, Dusty Groove, Inc.:The fantastic lost legacy of The Harlots Of 42nd Street – a cross-dressing group who were Manhattan contemporaries of the New York Dolls, but who never got their best shot at fame! If anything, the group's lyrics are grittier than the Dolls – more in the streetwise/street scene mode of early solo Lou Reed, with plenty of tales from the gutter on up – and although their sound may be a little less punkish, their overall approach is still nice and raw, and completely unique! The group only issued one single back in the day, and this set is the first full-length document of their music – with titles that include "S&M," "Refuse To Be Misused," "Cool Dude & Foxy Lady," "Mother Nature," "Polyethylena Purebred," "Spray Paint Bandit," and "Double Bubble Bustin Baby." https://www.dustygroove.com/item/126448/Harlots:Refuse-To-Be-Misused-pink-vinyl-pressing
